About AssetWhisper
AssetWhisper is an independent publication about investing. It exists because most financial writing sits at one of two extremes: institutional research written for people who already have the vocabulary, or consumer content that repeats the same ten tips without ever showing the arithmetic behind them.
We aim at the space in between — explaining what actually moves returns, and what only appears to, in enough detail that a reader can judge a decision rather than follow a recommendation.
What we cover
- Portfolio construction and risk. Position sizing, asset allocation, drawdowns, hedging, and the arithmetic that decides whether a mistake is recoverable.
- Funds and instruments. ETFs, index funds, REITs and thematic products — what they hold rather than what they are called.
- Algorithmic and systematic trading. How rules are built, tested and sized, and how honestly to read a backtest.
- Market structure and macro. Interest rates, inflation, regulation and the mechanisms through which events reach a portfolio.
- Investor behaviour. The documented ways investors act against their own interest, which cost more than poor security selection does.
How we approach it
Evidence over assertion. Where research exists, we cite it, including when it disagrees with the popular view or with itself. Where a claim rests on an assumption, we state the assumption.
Arithmetic over adjectives. A table showing that a 50% loss needs a 100% gain to recover says more than a paragraph about the importance of managing risk. We publish the numbers.
The honest answer, including when it is uncomfortable. Some popular strategies have a documented cost. Some past themes did not work out. We would rather write that plainly than write around it.
No tips, no signals, no recommendations. We do not tell readers what to buy. We explain how something works and what the evidence says, and the decision stays with the reader.
What we are not
AssetWhisper is not a registered investment adviser, a broker, or a fund manager. We do not manage money, we do not accept payment to feature any product, and we are not owned by or affiliated with any financial institution. Nothing published here is personalised financial advice, and no article takes any individual reader’s circumstances into account.
